Cold-blooded crocodiles, going through this week with unusual survival methods.
It is called “icing” and it is the way alligators breathe when immersed in cold temperatures.
As they may see in the photos, they are still alive – and in the midst of the struggles of their lives.
What is ‘icing’?
By reducing their rate of digestion, becoming drowsy, and keeping snakes at bay, crocodiles can survive short periods of cold weather.
As cold-blooded reptiles, crocodiles rely on animals in their external environment for temperature control, which means that cold weather is not conducive to their survival.
“The snipers would not freeze if the water was icy,” he said, adding that “their noses are just dark, so the cold does not hurt their noses … they can still move and know things.”
