“Many of the injured are there and are being transported from the direction of the Macy’s,” McBride told CNN. “None of the casualties appeared to be life-threatening.”
The mayor said “the perpetrators are big at the moment” and about 75 police officers were on display at the Mayfair mall a week before the difficult holiday season.
‘It will take time to provide more information and perhaps more accurate,’ McBride said.
The FBI in Milwaukee wrote that the agents were “currently responding to a combination of local law enforcement tactics in connection with the Mayfair Mall shooting.”
Police officers in tactical gear were seen entering the mall, and at least 5 people carrying trucks into ambulances, WISN reported.
Austin Seybold, 24, said he was confined to the back room of the Finish Line inside the mall. Seybold sees customers running through the store. Employees started rounding up people inside the store and “took them to the side and locked our front door,” Seybold wrote to CNN via text message from the store.
Seybold said six employees and about a dozen customers were detained in the back room for about two hours before the SWAT team fired them.
At first it was frustrating, but we managed to keep everyone in the back without fuss and everyone remained calm which was nice which was nice, even though we could hear it sounding like the SWAT team in the back of the mall and gravity. Of the situation is beginning to set in, “he wrote.
Wauwatosa is about seven miles northwest of Milwaukee.
The decision not to count Mensah has sparked months of nationwide protests over how police treat blacks.
