Mr. Trump is also continuing to inflict the psychological scars of losing his opponent again during the campaign as an unworthy competitor, a victory that would bring shame. Again, he did not appear in public on Thursday, after breaking the first coronavirus prevention committee meeting at the White House in more than six months, a senior official told CNN he was planning to attend the World Economic Cooperation summit on Friday.
Mr. Trump has heard from friends and associations of businessmen who have been urging him to let the transition begin, although he does not want to admit it, another source familiar with the president’s ideas told CNN. His answer: No, you are wrong. “Absolutely wrong,” according to one source.
Friends and members, the source said, they represent the president thinking about the future. They told him he was making trouble for himself, that he would have a hard time getting people to stay at his hotel, or even borrow money if he continued this behavior. He would abuse his brand, they told him. The President thinks that is wrong.
“The most important thing we have to remember is that Donald is in a unique position for him,” said the sister of President Mary Trump, author of a memoir on the tragedy of his family life. “He has never lived in a situation where he could not escape the use of other people’s money, the use of cables, the use of power. And not only was he in a unique position, he was also in a losing position, which in my family, of course, as far as my grandfather was concerned, was the worst.”
The source said Mr. Trump was listening to his friends, but the source said the conversation ended quickly because he disagreed. He did not want to hear what he did not believe.
Within the White House, it seems that many have decided to leave this play either because they want to or because they have no choice. Son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner is playing it cool, the source said, while Ivanka Trump’s daughter pulled herself out of the affair, CNN reported last week.
Sources say Ivanka is well aware that she has a business that she may want to return to political life, or even political life in the future.
The president, the source said, “do not see” the consequences of all this for the country and for democracy itself. As usual, he focused on himself – not Covid-19, and not change.
Even Mr. Trump has been told not to accept and just let the transition go. It is not registered, at least not yet registered.
In another week or 10 days, this source said, it could be a different story.
But now he is not ready to accept.
